Business Plan

According to business.gov, there are ten steps to starting a small business:

  1. Research & plan your business
  2. Get business training and expert advice
  3. Select a location
  4. Finance your business
  5. Select business name
  6. Determine legal structure of your business
  7. Get an employer identification number (EIN)
  8. Register for state taxes
  9. Obtain business licenses and permits
  10. Employee responsibilities

There is no right or wrong way to compose a business plan. The process of creating and writing a business plan is as valuable as the end product itself - a document that will provide the priorities, context, and boundaries you'll need as you start up your business.

The SCORE Online Learning Center provides information on many business topics. Specific information is available for women and minority business owners and entrepreneurs. Also, 60-second guides are available for quick tips on making your business successful.

Sponsored by SBDC, this site provides answers to many general business questions. Discussion boards allow business owners the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss issues.
