2008 Accomplishments

Providing Results for Our Members and the Business Community

Business Development Council

·      Continued to support the Air Quality PM 2.5 Petition

·      Hosted the Economic Forecast luncheon

·      Collaborated with the Greater Greenville Chamber in expanding the NEXT program to Anderson County

·      Published a Small Business Resource Guide

·      Continued to support meetings with Savannah River Basin chambers of commerce in South Carolina and Georgia to discuss the economic impact of Lake Hartwell

·      Researched and communicated the quarterly ACCRA Cost of Living Index survey

·      Awarded the annual Small Business of the Year award

·      Awarded the annual Pillar of Anderson award

·      Awarded the annual ATHENA Award

·      Awarded the annual ATHENA Young Professional Award

 

Government Affairs Council

·      Developed the 2008 Legislative Agenda

·      Produced and distributed 25,000 inserts for the 2008 State House Review

·      Partnered with the Greater Greenville, Greater Greer, and Spartanburg Area chamber of commerce in the hiring of a public policy lobbyist team

·      Coordinated and implemented annual trip to Washington, DC, where attendees met with federal elected representatives and key government officials to discuss legislative issues affecting the Upstate

·      Coordinated and implemented the annual “Anderson Goes to Columbia” trip, where attendees traveled to Columbia and met with Anderson County Legislative Delegation and other state officials

·      Supported and gained approval of Sunday Alcohol Sales in the City of Anderson  

·      Organized a marketing/education team to promote the passage of the One Cent Capital Sales Tax referendum

·      Supported efforts to reduce outflows of water from Lake Hartwell

·      Began the exploration to form a PAC (Political Action Committee)

 

Membership Council

·      Recruited 96 new business members to the Anderson Area Chamber

·      Added “My OSHA Store” to our member benefits package

·      Published annual Chamber of Commerce Membership Directory and Newcomer’s Guide

·      Hosted 31 ribbon cutting celebrations for Chamber member businesses

·      Sold $98,190 in Certifichecks gift certificates to support member commerce and keep retail dollars in our local economy

 

Community Development Council

·      Provided continued facilitation of Imagine Anderson, a shared county-wide vision for the year 2026

·      Co-hosted the Upstate Diversity Awards Dinner

·      Co-sponsored the 5th annual BE THE LINK for Diversity dialogue forum

·      Graduated 31 individuals from Leadership Anderson Class XXIV, 13 individuals from Discover Anderson Class XIII, and 35 high school juniors from Junior Leadership Anderson Class XIV

·      Recruited a record number of participants (39) for Leadership Anderson Class XXV

·      Awarded the annual Citizenship & Service award

·      Awarded the annual Non-Profit Director of the Year award

·      Awarded the annual Leadership Alumni of the Year award

·      Awarded the annual Ambassador of the Year award

 

Special Achievements/Honors

·      Received an Award for Communication Excellence (ACE) for the Imagine Anderson Community Kick-off event from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives
