What Are Your Legislative Priorities?

As we begin to set the Businesss Agenda for the 2007 legislative year, we are looking for your input as it pertains to legislative initiatives to address prime concerns expressed by Chamber members and the business community.

Please complete this Survey by Friday, November 10, 2006. Thank you for your time and interest.

What Do YOU Imagine for Anderson?

Imagine Anderson is a community-wide visioning initiative designed to gather input from all Anderson County citizens and create a 20-year plan for our community. Imagine....what will Anderson County be in the year 2026? With broad-based citizen input, project leaders hope to develop a vision for the ideal Anderson, as well as a plan for achieving goals identified during the “imagining” process.

During the month of October, local citizens participated in a series of Town Hall Meetings that were hosted throughout Anderson County as part of the Imagine Anderson visioning process. These public forums offered residents the opportunity to discuss topics of interest and concern to them and their families in the areas of business, economic development, education, the arts, government, diversity and environment.

While the formal input meetings have concluded, citizens can still submit their input by completing a Vision Input Form. This form can be obtained by visiting the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce or by accessing the initiative’s web site at www.imagineanderson.com. If you were unable to attend one of the Town Hall Meetings, we encourage you to complete an input form. It is vital that everyone’s voice be heard as part of this visioning process. On January 18, 2007, a draft of the vision plan will be presented to the community for their review and discussion.

“Taking time to think about the future of Anderson will enable us to shape how growth takes place,” said Doug McDougald, Jr., chairman of the Imagine Anderson steering committee. “Imagine Anderson is a way to give citizens a say in their community’s future. When citizens are brought into the vision-creation process, they become invested. A community vision emerges that they own. They become stakeholders in their community’s future.”

For more information on Imagine Anderson, please contact Cindy Hopkins at the Chamber at 864-226-3454 or at chopkins@andersonscchamber.com.

Ambassador of the Month Recognized

The Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Andy Blondeau with the Anderson Convention and Visitors Bureau has been named Ambassador of the Month for October 2006 by accruing 23 “Ambassador Points”.

Andy serves as the Sales Manager at the Anderson Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) where he works with meeting planners, tournament directors and group tour leaders to increase overnight visitation in Anderson County. The CVB is the destination marketing organization for Anderson & Anderson County.  It promotes the area as a destination for leisure travel and conventions, meetings, reunions and sports tournaments.  Its mission is to put “heads in beds” by generating overnight hotel occupancy.  The economic and quality of life benefits that result from hosting groups in our community include the sale of hotel rooms and meals purchased by visitors while increasing the visitor’s awareness of the local community.  For more information, visit www.visitanderson.com.

In addition to volunteering for the Chamber, Andy is also an active member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson and serves as a board member for the Anderson County Arts Center.

The Ambassadors are a select group of dedicated volunteers who serve as the public relations arm of the Anderson Area Chamber. They assist the Chamber staff in welcoming new members into the Chamber, obtaining feedback from its existing members, hosting ribbon cutting and ground breaking ceremonies, and offering volunteer support to Chamber events. For more information on the Ambassador program, please contact Cindy Hopkins at 864-226-3454.
