On Thursday, August 15th thirty-eight families were displaced from their homes when a fire broke out at the Azalea Apartments in Anderson, SC. The fire has affected forty units at the complex displacing over 60 people.
More than thirty-five trained Red Cross disaster responders have been helping families with immediate needs such as food, clothing, medications and safe shelter. A respite center has opened at the Oakdale Baptist Church located at 6724 Highway 24 in Townville, SC.
The respite center will provide a place for families to meet with Red Cross caseworkers, mental health volunteers and other agencies that may be able to provide additional assistance. Hot meals, snacks and supplies are also available at the center.
