29TH ANNUAL Historic Pendleton Spring Jubilee – April 1-2, 2006
Ready for sunshine, warm breezes and a day in the park? If you are, plan to attend the 29th Annual HISTORIC PENDLETON SPRING JUBILEE, a juried Arts & Crafts festival sponsored by the Pendleton District Commission. This award winning event welcomes 30,000 visitors to usher in spring around the town's quaint Village Green, 10 am – 6 pm, Saturday, April 1, and 1 -6 pm , Sunday, April 2, 2005.
Artists and crafters from across the Southeast and as far away as Maine and Indiana offer a wide variety of original creations. Included are art work, baskets, lawn furniture, jewelry, pottery, stained glass mosaics, ironworks, fused glass, and more.
A centrally located entertainment stage features local and regional musicians. Bring a lawn chair, buy a funnel cake and lemonade, then rest awhile and enjoy the live entertainment.
Historic walking tours, "Shattered Past--Hopeful Future: Pendleton Enters the 20th Century," offer visitors a walk down the sidewalks of time. Under Professor Jess Groves' direction, Clemson University students in ''PRTM 431: Methods of Environmental Interpretation'' appear in period dress as turn-of-the-century Pendleton residents. Tours begin at 1:00 p.m. and leave every 15 minutes at the side entrance of Hunters Store.
For 28 years, the walking tour partnership between Clemson University and Spring Jubilee has enriched the Jubilee experience as students have gained hands-on experience in historic interpretation. Annually, the spring semester class chooses a period in the history of Pendleton to explore. The lives of Pendleton families are researched through the Pendleton District Commission's local history archives. Dressed in period clothing, the students assume the persona of long-gone Pendleton residents in an engaging walk through the town.
