The purpose of the workshop is to provide practical knowledge for day-to-day industrial management to people with Health, Safety and Environment responsibilities, such as HSE specialists, plant managers and operational managers.
The workshop agenda is outlined below.
Time Topic Speaker 8:00 am REGISTRATION and CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST 8:30 WELCOME & INTRODUCTORY REMARKS 8:45-9:15 Health & Safety Training Dave Comen, Kestrel Horizons will provide an overview of determining HSE training requirements, resources, and documentation. 9:15-9:45 Stormwater Marshall Taylor, McNair Law Firm will present a brief overview of the storm water permitting programs applicable to industry and construction. 9:45-10:15 Homeland Security Max Learner is Director of DHEC’s Office of Public Health Preparedness, responsible for emergency management planning for epidemic disease control, emergency bioterrorism response, and mass casualty response. 10:15-10:30 BREAK 10:30-11:00 Waste Management/ Recycling - Round Table Discussion Amanda St. John, DHEC Waste Minimization Group - DHEC’s Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling provides technical assistance and education/awareness programs to businesses regarding waste reduction and recycling issues.
Greg Smith, Anderson County Solid Waste - To provide a quality, efficient operation for the disposal of solid waste in Anderson County. To provide convenience centers for the temporary storage of individual household trash and provide a disposal site for construction/demolition debris and other waste not suitable for disposal in a solid waste landfill.
Brandt League, SP Recycling- SP Recycling recycles paper and plastics. They service a number of locations in Anderson County, including the convenience centers and schools.
TBD, CRG Materials - CRG provides comprehensive metals recycling, including in-plant training programs to assist plant personnel to handle scrap on a regular basis.11:00-11:30 Compliance Assistance Christine Steagall leads DHEC’s Center for Waste Minimization, which provides assistance in the form of waste assessments and compliance assistance visits and coordinates South Carolina’s Environmental Excellence Program. 11:30-12:00 State Legislative Update Lee Zimmerman of the McNair Law Firm will provide an update of current legislative initiatives and regulatory proposals in South Carolina that may impact a company’s environmental, health and safety requirements.
