Mayor Roberts to discuss African-American Commerce in Anderson

The mayor will discuss the legacy of Church Street, the historical center for African-American commerce in Anderson was demolished to build a parking lot. As part of his presentation he will describe the documentary, Trading Church Street: Pride, Prejudice, and a Parking Lot. The film highlights the personal stories of people who owned and opened businesses on Church Street. Within the presentation, Mayor Roberts will detail how the Black community from 1900 up until 1980 negotiated the complicated and difficult history of commercial segregation in Anderson.
