Ribbon Cutting for Family Promise of Anderson County's Sunshine House

Bringing Sunshine to Families

Grace Episcopal Church and Family Promise of Anderson County partnered to create Sunshine House Too, a second transitional house for homeless families. Family Promise will select a family from their Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) to place in the Sunshine House and continue to provide case management services and financial education. To celebrate the opening of Sunshine House Too, the two organizations will host a ribbon cutting, dedication and open house on Monday, September 21 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at 615 S. Manning Street. The Reverend Jack Hardaway will preside over the house dedication and blessing. Refreshments will be provided.   

In 1993, members of Grace Episcopal Church decided to address the issue of homelessness in Anderson by researching options for providing shelter for homeless families. The solution was transitional housing. In 1994 a collaboration formed of local leaders and a board of directors was established. They hired an executive director for the first Sunshine House on Morris Street. The program grew to six units until it was turned over to Upstate Homeless Coalition in 2013.

Grace Episcopal owns the original Sunshine House on Morris Street and added Sunshine House Too in January 2015. They developed a partnership with Family Promise to identify families for the two houses and provide case management services. Together, they solicited furniture, household items and funding to prepare Sunshine House Too for residency. Repairs were made and the interior decorated making it ready for the dedication and open house as well as a family in the near future.
