The journey to the National Festival began in November 2018, when the production was named winner of the South Carolina Theatre Association Community Theatre Festival in Anderson, SC. The production then moved on to Knoxville, Tennessee, for the Region IV Festival at the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) February 27 – March 3. AACT Region IV includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. In addition to winning the AACT Region IV Festival, the production was honored with Festival Adjudicator Awards for Outstanding Ensemble Acting and Outstanding Achievement in Acting to Cindy Mixon (Nurse), Anne Robards (Lady Capulet), and Ken Thomason (Capulet). The Mill Town Players will present Romeo and Juliet at AACTFest 2019 on Friday, June 21, at 1pm in Gettysburg’s Majestic Theater.
Now only in its 5th Season, Mill Town Players has quickly become one of the most-attended community theatres in South Carolina. “This honor is a testament to the talent, hard work, and collaboration that exists in our thriving community of theatre artists in Upstate SC. As the first group from SC to participate in AACTFest since 1985, we are especially thrilled to be given this opportunity,” stated Will Ragland, Executive Artistic Director of Mill Town Players.
AACTFest 2019 is the culmination of a two-year cycle of state and regional theatre AACT festivals and will feature twelve community theatre productions from across the United States and the U.S. Military Services overseas that received top honors in their respective state and regional festivals. These winners represent the best community theatre America has to offer. The AACTFest 2019 National Theatre Festival includes theatre management and youth conferences, a youth theatre festival, educational workshops, top vendor displays, design and monologue competitions, social events, sightseeing, and networking opportunities, all ending with a festival awards presentation.
