The Sweetery to launch new flavor of Wine Sticks at national show

ANDERSON, S.C – The family owned bakery, The Sweetery, will be introducing its latest creation – a biscotti like snack that can be paired with a Bloody Mary or sweet white wine – at The National Association of Specialty Foods trade show next week in San Francisco.

The Carolina Spice is the latest edition to the Anderson-based company’s Wine Sticks and Beer Buddies lines that are delectable treats crafted to pair perfectly with an assortment of wines, beer and other beverages, said Ryan Jarahian, co-owner of the Sweetery. Wine Sticks and Beer Buddies, which are preservative free, are designed to flavor and blend with their drink while not easily crumbling when dipped.

“What biscotti is to coffee, Wine Sticks are to wine,” he said. “Each flavor is designed to combine with specific wine selections to enhance flavor notes, but are also great with artisan cheese, spreads, coffee, tea, or as stand-alone treats.”

The Carolina Spice will debut at the Winter Fancy Food Show, which starts on January 13 in San Francisco. The event is one of the largest culinary showcases in the world with more than 80,000 specialty foods and beverages in display; 1,400 plus exhibitors and thousands of new products being shown.

The Wine Sticks and Beer Buddies concept evolved from The Sweetery’s team going to different trade shows and food events, and seeing the excitement over drinking great wine and trying new beers, Jarahian said.

Each Wine Stick and Beer Buddy is best paired with a particular beverage, which led to the creation of the Carolina Spice for the extremely popular morning drink, the Bloody Mary, as well as numerous sweet white wines. The Carolina Spice is brushed with its own house blend of Bloody Mary spices to enhance its flavor.

“We saw an opportunity to put our name into the wine and spirits market, and we took it,” he said.
